Africatown Plaza, now completed, officially open, and actively leasing, exemplifies the power of community partnership.
Africatown Plaza, now completed, officially open, and actively leasing, exemplifies the power of community partnership.
Built with 32.5% Black-owned subcontractors and led by a Black-owned general contractor, with over 50% of contracts awarded to minority-owned businesses, Africatown Plaza reflects our commitment to creating economic opportunities for Black businesses and supports a community-driven effort to revitalize the community.
Through Benu, ACLT is reshaping how Seattle cares for its community, ensuring that those who have been left out can finally find a place that welcomes them.
Our unique, culturally responsive approach to providing these services proves that housing can be more than a roof over one’s head; it can become a pathway to stability, community, and dignity. Since opening its doors in 2021, Benu has served over 600 men, provided over 100,000 nights of shelter, supported successful transition of over 200 guests to stable housing and assisted over 120 guests into employment.
Your support helps us create vibrant spaces that honor Seattle’s Black heritage. Thanks to your generosity, we host events, produce art, and develop programs that preserve this legacy and inspire future generations.
Since 2023, we’ve engaged nearly 10,000 community members, spotlighted dozens of artists, leaders, and businesses, and created opportunities to reconnect with the Central District’s history. Together, we’re preserving stories, strengthening identity, and building spaces where Black culture thrives. Thank you for ensuring this heritage flourishes for generations to come!
We are driven by a powerful truth: a city that neglects its most marginalized communities is a city built on inequity, weakening its foundation and perpetuating cycles of disenfranchisement.
We are committed not only to reversing these trends but to building systems that ensure they never occur again. Since 2022, the William Grose Center has enrolled over 600 students in programs, delivering more than 800 hours of skill-building to support economic mobility for Seattle’s Black community. Through partnerships like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, we’ve also provided over 120,000 books to children ages 0-5 across King County since 2023. Our work is urgent, unapologetic, and rooted in the belief that restoring Seattle’s Black legacy strengthens the entire city, fostering equity and opportunity for all.
